Travel Basketball  2022-23

WBA is prepared to register players, conduct evaluations, form travel teams, and host MetroWest League games at Winchester High School. Unlike last year, we expect that gym availability in the Winchester Public Schools for practices and games will return to something approaching pre-pandemic levels, which should allow us to avoid practicing in other towns.

When you register your player for the WBA’s travel basketball program, you will pay a non-refundable $25 evaluation fee. If your player is invited to join a WBA travel team the remaining fee ($300) will be due in early November.

Evaluations for boys and girls interested in playing travel basketball will be conducted at Winchester High School beginning in mid-October. Evaluation Schedule.

Once teams are formed in late October, practices and games will soon begin.

November 2022 will focus on pre-season practices; some teams may participate in Thanksgiving tournaments at their discretion. Regular season practices and travel games will begin after Thanksgiving during the week of November 28th.

Travel teams in Grades 6-8 will practice twice (2x) a week and play two (2x) games per week on Saturdays and Sundays. The Metrowest League runs through February 2023 and includes at least one playoff game (single elimination tournament in early March) for every travel team.

Travel teams in Grades 4 and 5 will practice once a week and play one or two games per week. The Metrowest League runs through February 2023 and includes at least one playoff game (single elimination tournament in early March) for every travel team.

In addition, travel players in Grades 4 and 5 are strongly encouraged to participate in the Winchester Recreation Department’s skills programs on weeknights (one session per week) at the Ambrose Elementary School. Please register for the Rec Department’s skills clinic.

IMPORTANT: Our team sizes and numbers are limited.

In Grade 4, there will be no more than one (1) boys and one (1) girls travel team. In Grade 5, the number of boys and girls travel teams is TBD. In Grades 6, 7, and 8, there will be a limit, respectively, of no more than three (3) boys or girls travel teams per grade.

Players who participate in the WBA’s October travel team evaluations and who are NOT invited to join a WBA travel team for the 2022-23 season are encouraged to participate in the Winchester Recreation Department’s (Rec Department) in-town league on Saturdays. In addition, as noted above, the Rec Department will offer skills clinics for players in Grades 4 and 5 on weeknights.
